If you don’t haveSpotify Premium, the ads you’ll see on the platform may start sounding a bit different.

At its inauguralSpotify Advanceevent in New York City recently, Spotify announced changes to its advertising business, including its new program “Gen AI Ads.” The music streaming giant’s new tools will enable advertisers to create ads generated by AI on its platform, including AI-generated scripts and voiceovers.

“We’re bringing our decades-long AI expertise and innovative approach to our advertising partners to enable them to create scripts and voiceovers at no additional cost, making it easier than ever to create high-quality, scalable audio ads,” Spotify said in apress release.

Gen AI Ads are only in the US and Canada

Alongside Gen AI Ads, Spotify introduced a new programmatic offering known as the Spotify Ad Exchange. This platform will allow advertisers to connect with Spotify’s logged-in users via real-time auctions. In essence, Spotify will let advertisers bid to access its advertising spaces, targeting its vast audience in real time.

Spotify’s Gen AI Ads are currently accessible to advertisers in the US and Canada via its Spotify Ads Manager platform. The Spotify Ad Exchange is now available to advertisers in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, Brazil, and Mexico.

As aSpotify user, you might wonder how this affects you. The new Ad Exchange program operates behind the scenes, but the Gen AI Ads program will be visible to you if you’re not a Premium member. If you find that ads on the platform sound more robotic and less natural, it’s likely due to Gen AI Ads. Although it doesn’t incur additional costs for advertisers, it will be fascinating to observe how many brands opt for this AI-driven approach versus creating ads without AI and if listeners will notice the difference.
