Capcom has once again delivered a sneak peak into the workings of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak in addition to three brand new monsters to the title and some new mechanics players can look forward to. Seregios headlined the event with its reveal as the previous flagship for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, the first title in the series to sell over 1 million copies in the west. Its popularity is well known as a rival to both the iconic Rathalos and Rathian. In addition to Seregios we also saw the appearance of two brand new subspecies; Aurora Somnacanth and Magma Almudron. Wielding snow and lava respectively, the two will cause hunters pain with new movesets for the monsters that will be quite exciting to take on.

In addition to this we saw two brand new major mechanics being added. The first is called Follower Quests which is a single player mechanic allowing hunters to go into select quests with NPC allies. This play style offers special rewards and helpful allies to take along to help, a first for the series, making it a charmingly unique addition. We also saw the addition of Switch Skill Swap, which allows hunters to change some of their Switch Skills on the fly to make for even more versatile attack styles at their disposal. There’s also a new evasion move that can be done while switching skills in order to allow some defensive maneuvers while vulnerable during the switch.

Last but not least we saw the announcement of a brand new themed Pro Controller for Nintendo Switch featuring Malzeno. This makes it the second Pro Controller for the Monster Hunter franchise as we saw the Magnamalo themed controller launch last year alongside Rise. It’s great to see Capcom still in full support of Nintendo’s many peripherals, and it’ll be even more exciting to see the controller up close and personal for those wanting to get the full experience.
