A Trailer That Changes Everything
After endless speculation aboutResident Evil 9, we’ve finally gotten a first look at the game, which promises to be another major leap for the franchise that began so many years ago. FollowingResident Evil Villageand theResident Evil 4 Remake, it’s time for a new chapter.{
Resident Evil: Requiem, orResident Evil 9: Requiem, is the ninth installment in Capcom’s survival horror series — a revolutionary entry that breaks from the style ofResident Evil 7andVillage.
“Requiem for the dead, nightmare for the living.”
This is the tagline featured on the game’s official website, which also promises:
“Prepare to escape death in a bone-chilling experience.”
The first trailer is a true bombshell and, aside from a few scenes, looks very different from previousResident Eviltitles.
The most notable detail is our return toRaccoon City(we even see the entrance to the police station), following the events ofResident Evil 3.
Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft Confirmed
Capcom has announced it will hit stores onFebruary 27, 2026, aligning with rumors that placed the game in the first quarter of next year.
Its platforms have also been revealed:PS5, Xbox Series X|S, andPC via Steam. For now, Nintendo Switch 2 is not part of the franchise’s “rebirth” plans.
The trailer includes several Easter eggs recognizable to longtimeResident Evilfans. For starters, the FBI agent shown at the beginning isGrace Ashcroft, daughter ofAlyssa Ashcroft, a character featured inResident Evil Outbreak andits sequel.
Playable at Gamescom 2025
We also get glimpses of present-dayRaccoon City, the town that was destroyed at the end ofResident Evil 3in a desperate nuclear strike. It now appears as a vast wasteland, with familiar locations — especially the police station.

Capcom seems to have added aSaw-like tone to the game, as the trailer suggests that Grace was subjected to torture in the past — or at least that’s the implication — though the imagery has a dreamlike feel to it.
Dark hallways, undead creatures, and the signature survival horror tone of the last two entries are all present. However, there’s no sign ofLeon Kennedy(rumored to be the protagonist) in the reveal trailer.

Resident Evil 9, or Resident Evil: Requiem, is currently in development by Capcom forPS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It will launch onFebruary 27, 2026, and we’re sure to hear more soon. It’s also been confirmed that the game will beplayable at Gamescom 2025.
