Gacha games such asHonkai: Star Rail,Wuthering WavesandGenshin Impactwill always have a pity system, andPersona 5: The Phantom Xis no different. The whole idea is that you’re able to buy random draws, upwards of 10 at a time, in hopes of getting a desired character or weapon. The numbers are never in your favor, with a five-star character being in the sub-one-percent chance of drawing them, so it only makes sense there is a system in play to ensure you get something for your troubles. With the recent release of Persona 5: The Phantom X, we wanted to go over how the pity system works.

Persona 5: Every Phantom Thief, Ranked

The Phantom Thieves are all delightful in their own way, but which if these Persona 5 characters are the best?

Standard and Dream Pity

Persona 5: The Phantom X isn’t too different from how a lot of modern-day gacha systems work, as they also include a familiar pity system. For Phantom X, it’s more or less what we’ve come to expect: each of the different banners has their own pity system that’s tied to specific characters.

So, for example, the standard banners will have an80 pull pity, meaning that after 79 draws, if you haven’t received a 5-star character, you will be guaranteed the next one. For special banners, it’s the same, but there’s an added chance you won’t get the banner’s character. There’s a50/50chance you will receive a random 5-five-star character among the standard characters, such as Morgana, Ryuji and Ann. If you fail the 50/50 and get one of the three, within the next 80 pulls you will be guaranteed the Dream banner character.

As forfour-star characters, you are guaranteed a character within the banner every10 pulls. So, if you roll 9 and don’t get a character, the next will be guaranteed. These are generally characters you can max their “Awareness” to max pretty quickly because of this.

Also, similar to other gacha games, the normal banner can be a long-term investment. While it has an 80-draw pity system similar to the Dream Pick Phantom Idol Contract, there is a special reward once you’ve hit300 pulls. While not a pity system, it’s a nice little gift for those who slowly pull on this banner, something we only really suggest when you obtain the unique Gold Tickets from various activities. You will be able to pick and choose between the four handful of regular characters, with the standard pity system being in effect.

Newcomer “Pity”

When you first start the game, or at least get to the point where you can recruit Contracts, there will be a Newcomers Contracts banner. This will only use 8 tickets per 10 draws, and after 50 pulls (or 40 tickets or 6,000 Meta Jewels currency), you will receive the ability to pick and choose between Moragana, Ann Takamaki and Ryuji Sakamoto.

Unfortunately, there isn’t an actual pity system in place for the Newcomer banner, so anything you receive during the 50 pulls won’t go towards a special counter outside the 50 for the “Special Reward.”

Weapon Pity

The weapon pity system is not too far off from how the character banners work, but there is a nice little change. Using a completely different token, although using the standard Meta Jewels, what you’re able to do is pick and choose through the “Edit Selection” option to pick two other weapons that have will drop if your luck isn’t with you.

There is a50% chanceof obtaining the banner unique weapon, which is generally tied to the Dream character at the time, with the other two weapons you selected having a25% chanceeach. It’s more or less a 50/50 shot for actually getting the desired weapon, but if you don’t get it, you’re able to get a consolation prize for one of the ones selected. Similar to Dream banners, if you fail the 50/50 the first time, you have a 100% chance of getting it within the next70 pulls.

The 110 Guarantee

If you’re familiar with the game in Asia, then you’ll likely have heard that there is a means of guaranteeing a special banner’s character by opting out of the standard 80 pull pity system in favor of 110. This is a much better system, in our opinion, taking away the 50/50 RNG aspect of gacha, but unfortunately, the west does not have this yet.

It was only recently released in the Asian versions, and sadly Atlus/Sega has elected not to include it in the western version. That doesn’t mean it’s not coming, though, as while it’s not confirmed, as we stated, it did take the Asian versions quite some time before implementing this system, only arriving late last year. It’s likely we’ll have a similar release schedule, but know that this quality-of-life component won’t be available at launch.
