Thanks to Disney’s Investor Day this year, there was a strong belief thatMoon Knightcould be leading Marvel Studios’ Disney+ charge early in 2022, and now a new rumor seems to suggest that we could be getting the series starringOscar Isaacand Ethan Hawke sooner rather than later.
A report byCinema Reviewedsuggested thatMoon Knightis currently ahead ofShe-Hulkwhen it comes to post-production despite the latter being wrapped filming since August as opposed toMoon Knightnot having completed filming until October. Additionally, the report goes on to mention a targeted February release date, which would be around three months since the first episodes ofHawkeyedebuted and would certainly help plug the gap in Marvel’sMCUoutput caused by the delaying ofDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

There have been a lot of scheduling changes recently by Disney when it comes to their slate of Marvel movies, which saw all of the upcoming MCU cinematic releases pushed back by three to six months. When it comes to the Disney+ series’, following the premiere ofHawkeyethere were no set dates released forMoon Knight, She-Hulk, Ms. MarvelandSecret Invasionwhich are all noted as arriving sometime in 2022.
There are a number of reasons whyMoon Knightcould well pipShe-Hulkto the post-production finish line, but the biggest one is the simple fact thatShe-Hulkwill see many of its characters requiring a hefty amount of CGI workwhich will be substantially more than that ofMoon Knight.
Further supporting a February release for the next Marvel project is the timing with the end ofThe Book of Boba Fett, which premiered on December 29th and comes to an end on February 9th. While there is not exactly a competition between theStar Warsand Marvel franchises, it would make sense that Disney will want to keep some kind of momentum going between their biggest releases on the platform while not taking attention away from one by overlapping with the other. Similarly, a mid-late February release would seeMoon Knight, one of the darker, supernatural based Marvel offerings, coming to an end just a couple of weeks beforeDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessarrives in cinemas.
Although we have seen ateaser trailer forMoon Knight, there is little that can be said about it as even the villain – played by Ethan Hawke – is not known yet. Other cast members include May Calamawy, Dina Shihabi. Alexander Cobb, Gaspard Ulliel, and Loic Mabanza, and there has also been a rumor that Sharon Carter’s The Power Broker will also appear and as we know Marvel loves nothing more than a tie-in crossover, this is not the wildest rumor out there.
A recent report suggested that as well as familiar faces on screen, there could be a well-known face behind the camera for at least one episode with a suggestion being made that George Clooney could have been drafted in to direct an episode of the series alongside showrunner Jeremy Slater and other directors Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.
