The Canteen Explained
Once you have gathered all of the ingredients for theCanteen, it will have:

Eating meals gives you temporary stat boosts and skills that will help hunters out in the field. Remember to eat before every quest and expedition! TheCanteencan even turn items into food with the oven roast so make sure to take advantage of this service early in the game.Players can eat meals at the following places:
Hunters need pick 2 food items in the same food group in order to obtain a Felyne skill. Each additional 2 matching food item adds another level of skill on the list of potential skills that can be receive after eating. The activation chance for skills increase by half a star per fresh food, so to reach the max of 3 stars players need six fresh foods.
Daily Skills
These skills change after every mission, only 3 exist each time, and will be the potential Felyne Skills that will activate without food row combos. Each successful combo hunters make will replace one Daily skill with the skill from the food combination. Daily Skills will be overwritten by food skill choices in this order: Middle, Bottom, Top.
Fresh Food will increase the amount of health obtained from the meal meaning with no fresh foodhunter will not receive a health bonus. Each fresh food adds +10 health for players and +4 for Palicos maxing out at +50 for players and +20 for Palico. 5 Fresh food awards the maximum bonus, so free feel to play around with the last food item to your liking.

Food Bonuses
Every 2 meat raises attack, every 2 fish raises defense, and every 2 veg increases elemental resistance. Drinks do not add any bonus like these.
Gathering Canteen Foods & Drinks
Like most of Monster Hunter, the game doesn’t tell new hunters how to obtain new ingredients. Most ingredients will be obtained by naturally progressing and beating the story, completing optional quests given by certain NPCs, and by gathering materials while out in the world.
