Plenty of characters who did not appear in the now defunct DCEU, a.k.a. the Snyderverse, are going to get a shot at having their stories told inJames Gunnand Peter Safran’sDC Universe. Lobo (Jason Momoa), the Green Lantern John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) are some examples. Should this latest rumor be true, Adam Strange will also be joining the DCU, andGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3starWill Poultercould be suiting up to take flight as the DC Comics Silver Age superhero. The report, which was posted by @gunnverse on Instagram, reads as follows (below):

“We may see Adam Strange in the new Green Lantern show for James Gunn’s new DCU! EXCLUSIVE: Midsommar and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Will Poulter is in talks to play Adam Strange in DC Studios’ developing universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran, with the character set to lead a series for Max.

Will Poulter as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3

If Poulter signs on, the plan is for Adam Strange to debut in another DCU project before headlining his own series, which is currently in the early stages of assembling a writers’ room. Several writers are circling the project, which is based on a basic story bible by Tom King and James Gunn, including Baran bo Odar, Christopher Yost, Beau Willimon, and Mark Protosevich.”

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Star Suggests There Is No Plan for His MCU Return

As a character that was highly anticipated, his MCU future seems uncertain.

Poulter is a two-time Primetime Emmy nomineethanks to his work onDopesickandThe Bear. The actor most recently appeared on the television seriesBlack Mirrorand in the filmsWarfareandDeath of a Unicorn.Poulter’s versatility would make him an excellent candidate to play Adam Strange if the rumor is true, but he’ll have to shift gears quite a bit because the DC Comics character is nothing like Adam Warlock.

Will Poulter Could Be Exchanging One Adam for Another

The upcoming DCULanternsseries has been in the headlines a lot lately and, most recently, withthe Paul Ben-Victor casting newsstating the acclaimed actor will be joining theTrue Detective-esque show. It’s been speculated by some that Ben-Victor’s character could actually be the Red Lantern Atrocitus, who first appeared in the comic book pages ofGreen LanternNo. 25 (2008). And if the latest rumor about Will Poulter joining the GL TV series is true, the actor will simply be trading in one Adam [Warlock] for another Adam [Strange].

Poulter played the part of Adam Warlock inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3as a foil for the ragtag superhero squad, but he eventually comes around to help save the day in the heart-wrenching final installment of James Gunn’s beloved film trilogy. On the other hand, Adam Strange isn’t all that different, at least in terms of his comic book origins. Strange is by no means one of DC Comics’ oldest superheroes. Rather than making his debut in the Golden Age, which began in 1938, like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, Strange didn’t come along until the Silver Age via the pages ofShowcaseNo. 17 (1958). Strange, like Warlock, can also fly, but he needs the assistance of a special space suit. Flight is where the comparisons end, though.

Meanwhile, Warlock first appeared as “Him” inFantastic FourNo. 66 (1967), almost a decade after Strange debuted at DC. Other than the propensity to fly, the characters are completely different, which will allow Poulter to approach Adam Strange in an entirely other way than Adam Warlock. Putting the two characters in DC Comics’ terms, Strange is more like Batman, Blue Beetle, or Booster Gold — at least in his original origin story. By comparison, Warlock is akin tothe more powerful DC villainsand heroes like Superman, Bizarro, General Zod, and Supergirl. So, it’ll be interesting to see how Strange interacts with the protectors of Sector 2814 (Hal Jordan and John Stewart) in the DCU seriesLanterns, should the casting rumor come to fruition.
