The Knights of Renhave been officially unveiled. New images fromStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerconfirm their mysterious return as J.J. Abrams gives them direction.Star Warsfans have been waiting since 2015’sThe Force Awakensto see the villainous characters make an appearance again. The Last Jediseemed like the most logical place to see them, but Rian Johnson had them on the sidelines, which obviously angered a certain group of fans.

The Dark Side warriors are still shrouded in mystery, but at least we know that the previous leaks were very real and accurate. Everything from the supposed fake poster leaked earlier this year has proven to be true, even Klad, the goofy-looking alien has proven to be real. While we can see theKnights of Renin the behind-the-scenes image, it’s not clear what is going on, but they appear to be on Jakku and they have the weapons, which have also been shown in previous leaks, albeit in cartoon form and the aforementioned leaked poster.

The Rise of Skywalkerimages also come with a blurb suggestingKylo Renis taking down the Knights of Ren in the movie. This has been the rumor for quite a while, with some fans being under the assumption that the Knights are going to be pretty upset about the death of Supreme Leader Snoke. We get a tease of this in the trailer, but it is shown out of context. With that being said, it looks like we are going to see even more conflict within Kylo Ren this time around.

As for seeing more Knight of Ren in the future, J.J. Abrams has said he would like to see aStar Warsspin-off movie on them. He talked about this in 2016 when the road was looking pretty crowded with upcomingStar Warsprojects. Now that the lanes are clear, it looks like ourchances of seeing their backstoryon the big screen are looking pretty slim. However, depending on the reaction toThe Rise of Skywalker, we could end up seeing them return for a possible Disney+ streaming service TV series.

As far as the future of the Skywalker saga,The Rise of Skywalkeris the final movie. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has teased that some of the characters introduced in the latest trilogy could make a return at some point down the line, so why not let the mysterious Knights of Ren get a chance in the spotlight. Demystifying them would go a long way in pleasing some hardcoreStar Warsfans who are looking for some more First Order origins. Whatever the case may be, we should all just satisfied to know they are included inThe Rise of Skywalker. You can check out the Knights of Ren below, thanks toVanity Fair.
