Prime Video’s Hit Comedy Show ‘Overcompensating’ Is Amazing, But One Choice Almost Ruined It

‘Overcompensating’ is exactly the kind of ridiculous queer comedy that we deserve. However, everyone has the same critique about the cast…

Behind the scenes,Countdownwas created by Derek Haas, who serves as the executive producer for theOne ChicagoandFBItelevision franchises, which air on NBC and CBS, respectively. His other credits include writing the screenplays forOverdriveandWanted. It’s unclear ifCountdownwill get more seasons, but Ackles may have found his new action vehicle after starring in 15 seasons ofSupernatural, as well as playing a supporting role inThe Boysas fan-favorite Soldier Boy. The official synopsis forCountdown:

Prime Video Bets Huge on ‘Countdown’ After ‘Citadel’ Flop

Prime Video is no stranger to jumpstarting action thriller franchises. FromReacher, which stars Alan Ritchson, to Chris Pratt’sThe Terminal List, the streaming platform produces some of the most-watched action shows on the market. They are likely betting big onCountdown, which also stars a TV veteran and an easily-marketable face at the forefront. However, not every endeavor has turned out in their favor, as the big-budget seriesCitadel, which spawned several spin-offs, quickly became a headache for Amazon and Prime Video due to poor critic reviews and ratings.

In the past year, the Russo Brothers-produced seriesCitadelhas received some major news regarding its future. While Season 2 is still in the works and on schedule to hit the streamer in 2026, the spin-offs,Honey BunnyandDiana, have been canceled. And while those stories will continue in the parent show, the damage was clearly done and felt. After pumping hundreds of millions intoCitadel, Prime Video should have a better time justifyingCountdown, which is backed by veteran TV talent. As fans count down the days until the show premieres, Jensen Ackles will soon star inThe Boysprequel spin-offVought Risingas Soldier Boy.
