In Dragon’s Dogma 2, there are many things you might miss. Some may be more important, so you should check every nook and cranny. Dwarven Smithing is an important vendor and holds potent gear. You might land on a cool Magikal Bow that you desperately need by going to this vendor. To unlock the Dwarven Smithing vendor in Dragon’s Dogma 2 requires a lot of leg work from you. Keep this guide close by while you’re playing.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: How to unlock Dwarven Smithing

There are a few ways to earn one thing in the game. Sometimes a method may be easier than the others which might be more enticing for you. This guide will cover the easiest but longer way to get the vendor. While it takes time, the result is worth it.

To unlock the vendor, there are a bunch of moving parts that add more time. But as you go through the hoops, other things unlock that might be useful later in your adventure.

You’re going to have tocomplete two side questswhich will both lead you to getting the vendor. I am going to break down each quest since they might be confusing.

Dulled Steel, Cold Forge

To trigger this quest, you first haveto unlockBakbattahl already. If you’re already in Bakbattahl, just take theOx Cart to the checkpoint and then back to Vernworth. Ifast traveled, so if that option is available, I would take it that way. Once you’re back in Vernworth, head to the castle area and start talking to every guard till you meetone named Roman.

He’ll tell you about this legendary sword that he gives to you with the task of it getting fixed. The issue is that the only blacksmith to fix the sword is in Bakbattahl. Now you have the second city unlock, simply travel back to Bakbattahl and talk to the blacksmith Brokkr. Use the map below to locate him.

Talk to him a few times, you’ll get another interaction with another NPC, Sara. After you talk to her, wait for Brokkr to leave the hutand then talk to Sara again. After talking to her, she’ll ask you to find15 pieces of Glimmercoal. The name is important.

Finding this resource can only be done in one area calledDigger Ruinswhich isnorthwest of Bakbatthal. Before trekking out there, gear up. I was what I thought was a higher level, but I still faced issues. Once you make it to the cave, turn off your lantern— but still be aware of the enemies around.

Glimmercoal is easily noticeable becauseit has a green glow to it. However, when you walk up to it, the green glow fades away. Don’t worry about that, pick it up and you’ll earn one glimmercoal. I suggest getting all 30, you’ll know why later.

Note therewill also be Glymorecorewhich you don’t need for this quest. You can collect some but they do weigh a lot. So if you have some, give it to your pawns.Glymorecore can be sold or used to buff weapons.

With 15 pieces of Glimmercoal, head back to Sara and hand in 15. You can give the rest of the amount, but I don’t recall it doing anything at that point. Upon handing the resource to Sara, Brokkr will step in and outright refuse to fix the weapon. When he leaves, you get the option of giving the sword that Roman gave you to Sara, or you can keep it. For the sake of the quest, give her the weapon.

When you give her the sword, you’ve completed the first part of obtaining the vendor.

Dragons Dogma Finding Sara

Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge

Okay now for the slightly hard stuff. After you hand in the quest above, you needto wait a day or two. So just find a bench and hang out for two days. Once two days have passed, you’ll be able to go back to Sara and get the weapon back right? Wrong.

She’ll explain information about smithing and what it does. By the end of the interaction, you would have learned another smithing technique. When you’re done talking to her, find a bench or an Inn and pass a day or two.Go back to Brokkr’s house, but this time talk to Brokkr. He’ll explain that Sara has gone to the volcanic island to fix our sword. It’s up to us to go and find her.

When you get the quest, you’ll get a yellow mark indicating where the spot is. However, it’s more of a general area. You will need to find Sara in themountain base cave of the volcanic island. The cave is a maze and I got lost in it. Thankfully, one of my colleagues who’s a better gamer than I am has afully detailed guideon getting through this part.

Once you find Sara, escort her out of the cave. I killed all the enemies in the cave before getting to her, this made leaving the base slightly easy since there weren’t that many enemies around. To make life easier, just fight everything in the cave before locating Sara.

Now that she has what she needs, head back to Brokkr’s Smithy. Upon reaching the house, you’ll see a cut scene between Brokkr and Sara. After that is done, you’ll get the sword back that started this quest. With the sword, head back to Roman in Vernworth. He’ll be marked this time so don’t worry about spending time looking for him. Give him the sword and now the quest is done.

Unlocking Dwarven Smithing

With both quests wrapped up,head back to Bakbatthal and talk to Sara in Brokkr’s Smithy. She’ll be ready to craft you high-end Drawen Gear now.

Remember when I mentioned the Glimmercoal? Since shopkeepers cangive out discountsthrough several means, Sara follows this rule as well. From giving her all the Glimmercoal you found, she’ll give you a decent-sized discount just by that. So make sure you got all the Glimmercoal in the cave.
