One fairly easy badge to nab in PEAK is the Mycology Badge, earned by eating four different types of edible mushrooms in a single run. The two main difficulties of this shroom-based challenge are differentiating poisonous mushrooms from their edible counterparts and finding them all before about the halfway point of a run.

Mycology Badge
In PEAK, the Mycology Badge is earned by finding and eating four different edible mushrooms. At the time of writing, there are only four types of mushrooms in the game (most with two variants, only one of which is edible) that you can eat, meaning you must thus get one of each type. These mushroom types are discussed more in the next section.
At the time of writing, only about 2.6% of players have unlocked the Mycology Badge achievement on Steam. This makes it a surprisingly rare unlock that may cause a player to believe it is very difficult to get. However, while difficulty is subjective, the end of this guide will discuss an approach to earning this badge that makes earning it much easier.

Once earned, the Mycology Badge will unlock a mushroom hat to wear on your adventures and, at least on Steam, the aforementioned Mycology Badge achievement.
PEAK has two other fungi not discussed in this article, the Shelf Mushroom and the Remedy Fungus, which cannot be eaten and aren’t used to earn the Mycology Badge.

The Mushrooms of PEAK
PEAK has four different mushrooms that you can decide to eat, most with two variants. One of these variants is completely edible and one will poison you shortly after consuming it. One exception are Chubby Mushrooms, which are always edible.
Some players report a “Weird Shroom” item in PEAK, but this item couldn’t be found in testing and almost no verifiable sources make mention of it. If is/was in PEAK, it’s either been removed or seems to be only very rarely encountered.

The mushrooms and how to distinguish them between their edible and poisonous counterparts are as follows:
In testing, it seems these mushrooms (both the toxic and edible versions) are only able to spawn in the Shore and Tropics biomes.

Eating toxic mushrooms doesn’t prevent you from getting the Mycology Badge, but they also don’t contribute to it (and may also cause you tocollapse in a poison-induced comaand possibly die as a result). It’s also unclear if beingfedan edible mushroom, rather than eating it yourself, contributes to the badge. In testing, one run in which all the necessary mushrooms were found, but one was fed to a player seeking to earn the badge, seemed to cause it not to be earned. For simplicity, it’s recommended you eat the edible mushrooms yourself when getting the badge.
The toxic versions of mushrooms DO fill some hunger when eaten; they just then deliver a dose of poison to you shortly after, adding poison to your bar. However, poison reduces naturally over time and can also be cured with a few items, so in some rare cases, eating mushrooms you know to be bad can be helpful. However, these mushrooms still don’t help you earn the Mycology Badge.
Tips for Earning the Badge
The Mycology Badge isn’t especially hard to earn if youplay co-opwith one or two other players helping and then also choose to make earning the badge, rather than getting to the Peak, your goal. Decide early if you want to earn the badge and make sure everyone knows how to identify the different mushrooms.
Additionally, note that mushroom spawn locations seem to be consistent per seed but that they don’talwaysspawn at a given location;put another way, if you have seen a mushroom at a spot in a previous run, remember to consistently check that spot on later runs if you failed to earn the badge(or just want a mushroom).

Mushrooms will spawn in the Shore and Tropics biome, with spawns seeming to be focused on the actual mountainous parts of the biomes in testing. Shore is much easier to explore than the Tropics, but you won’t necessarily find all the mushrooms you need in that biome. Regardless, verify players note where they find mushrooms (even toxic ones), as you’ll want to revisit those same spots later if you fail to get the badge on your current run. Tracking locations where mushrooms are likely to spawn helpsreduce the time pressureof this challenge, as the fog and starvation mechanics of PEAK do mean you only have so much time in each biome per run.
Working together helps sharply reduce the luck and time it takes for a player to earn this badge. When you find an edible mushroom, announce it loudly and, if possible, carry extras to your friends. It also helps to prioritize a particular team member for the badge. Everyone involved then just tries to get the mushrooms to the target player. However, mushrooms also spawn in groups, so it’s perfectly possible for multiple people to earn the Mycology Badge in a single run.
If you make the Mycology Badge your goal for a run and have some people to help, only going for the Peak if you just can’t find the mushrooms you need or if you’ve already met the badge requirements, it isn’tguaranteedyou’ll get it, but it’s far easier than the current 2.6% earn rate on Steam would suggest. To theorize, the low earning rate is likely caused by a few factors mostly unrelated to difficulty:
