Even though it was fairly successful at the box office, plans for a sequel were dropped, and then the franchise formally entered development hell due to rights issues that have only recently been resolved. Currently, there are plans to revive Jason once again witha television series titledCrystal Lake.

Is ‘Friday the 13th’s 2009 Remake the Best Among the Worst?

In the early 2000s, films likeThe Ringproved that horror remakes could be big business - even if they rarely held a candle to the originals. However, this was not a given, as movies such asThirteen GhostsandHouse of Waxwere new renditions of old movies that were slick in style but lacked the power of the original concepts. In “slasherland,” 2010’s version ofA Nightmare on Elm Street, coming a year afterFriday the 13th, seemed to be the finall nail in the coffin for the remake craze.

However, and as Tubi users have proven, there were exceptions. As much as critics and audiences were not in tune with it,2009’sFriday the 13this not exactly a bad movie. Coming after a dozen other movies to feature the machette-wielding killer of Crystal Lake, the film managed to deliver one of the best scripts of the lot, and included some creative kills to boot. As it stands, Friday the 13th was a remake that deserved more love than it received, and now it appears to be getting its dues.
