During a Square Enix livestream promotingFinal Fantasy 16, veteran Japanese game designer Ryota Suzuki called the soon-to-be-released title his “personal masterpiece”, a particularly impressive statement given his 25 years of working on triple-A titles.

Originally translated byAitai Kimochiand spotted byVGC, Suzuki was candid in his statement during the stream, saying “I’ve been making action games for the past 25 years of my career, and I truly think this game is my own personal masterpiece.”

Suzuki previously worked on big action releases like Devil May Cry 5, Monster Hunter: World and Dragon’s Dogma. It’s clear from his message that Suzuki believes wholly in the quality of the action in Final Fantasy 16.

“We put priority in designing this game’s battle system to appeal to those who previously have not played or are not well versed in action games. So I hope that those who have never played an action game before can go out and try Final Fantasy 16. I hope this game will give you a chance to experience the allure that an action game can bring,” Suzuki continued.

As with every Final Fantasy game, or any JRPG for that matter, combat has been a big point of discussion prior to Final Fantasy 16’s release. Suzuki’s reference to the care the team has taken to make the game appealing to non-fans of the genre is likely a reference to the game’s “timely support accessories,” anew featurethat aims to make aspects of combat easier for newer fans.

These “rings” are equippable and have different effects. For example, the Ring of Timely Focus slows down combat prior to an enemy’s attack, allowing a longer window for the player to react accordingly. There are five of these rings in total.

Aday-one patchhas already been confirmed for Final Fantasy 16. The update will be 300MB in size, but you probably won’t notice this if you’re downloading the full game which clocks in at a behemoth 90.18 GB.

Final Fantasy 16 releases exclusively on PlayStation 5 on June 22.
