At the beginning ofClair Obscur: Expedition 33, you see first-hand the sad state of the world and the Gommage send off for those past a certain age. Gustave is one of the fortunate ones, being one year younger, but that means he enlisted in trying to takedown The Paintress in the sixty-seventh expedition, something people have lost a lot of hope of succeeding. Before going on your voyage, though, the city holds a small festival for the brave souls putting their lives on the line, and with it comes tokens that can be exchanged at the handful of vendors.

What to Spend the Festival Tokens on?
You will start off with one Token when entering the festival, with the ability to gain two more. At the very small event for the expedition, there will be three little stalls to the left of entering. Each of the three vendors will sell something very distinct, giving you a taste of the shop system and various items you can expect to find in the world. There are Pictos that can be equipped top allies, hairstyles to stylize each character, and an Old Key which has a hidden purpose.

Where to Get Festival Tokens
Antoine is located directly in front of Colette, enjoying his little slice of cake and glass of wine, boasting how he’s better than Gustave in terms of history. He holds a Festival Token, though, as in order to get it, you must best him in a little game of knowing your history. Of course, you most likely don’t know the answers to these questions, but we’re here to guide you. Antoine will ask three questions, and if you get all three correct, he will hand over his token and admit defeat.

The second and final token you’re able to obtain, as one of them is given to you automatically upon entering the area, is tied directly to Maelle. You will be forced to talk to Maelle about the current expedition before eventually having to progress the story via your sister Emma. Doing so will give a little bit of perspective on why Maelle is going on the expedition so early, but more importantly, she challenges Gustave to a duel.
Maelle isn’t playing this time around, as her attacks will do significantly more damage, taking you down in only a couple of turns if you don’t dodge or parry. She only has two attacks, one long windup attack, and a three-hit combo. If you’re able to successfully defeat her, she will give you her Festival Token to be exchanged for goodies.
