While you might catch a few references and callbacks to previousACgames,Armored Core 6takes place on a new planet and has a unique story. With that said,no, you don’t need to play any of the oldArmored Coregames to understandArmored Core 6. Though it won’t hurt, experiencing the oldACgames won’t directly benefit or take away from yourArmored Core 6experience.
