Nine years ago this month, HBO’s hit seriesDeadwoodaired its last episode after just three seasons on the air. Ever since then, fans have been clamoring for the show to return in some form, with series starKim Dickenssaying last year thatDeadwoodcreatorDavid Milchstill wants to give the beloved Western series a proper ending. Earlier today, starGarret Dillahunttold his Twitter followers that he’s heard rumors of aDeadwoodmovie. Here’s what the actor had to say on his Twitter page.

“So uh….I’m hearing credible rumors about a #Deadwood movie. #Everybodypray. Come on @HBO…you made @entouragemovie. Give the #Deadwood fans some closure. #Youcandoit.”

TV Linealso reports that HBO is actually in negotiations withDavid Milchfor a movie that will wrap up the story line, though it is not stated whether or not this will be a movie that airs on HBO or in theaters, likeSex and the City: The MovieandEntourage. The show was abruptly canceled in 2006, but HBO announced plans for twoTV moviesshortly thereafter. They never came to fruition. It isn’t known ifDavid Milchalready has a story worked out, or how far along the negotiations are between the network and the writer.

Set in the late 1800s inDeadwood, South Dakota, the show centered on a camp of outlaws that faces a number of challenges, not the least of which isits first elections. But the power struggles continue over everything in Deadwood-influence, money, and whores-as the founding camp members form strategic alliances to face down the threat of a powerful newcomer, seeking to remake Deadwood in his image. During its three seasons on the air,Deadwoodwas nominated for 28Emmy Awards, winning eight for makeup, hairstyling, cinematography, sound editing, costumes and direction, forWalter Hill’s work on thepilot episode.

HBO wouldn’t confirm that negotiations are under way for aDeadwoodmovie, but hopefully we’ll hear something official soon. Several of the aforementioned cast members went on to much bigger roles, and the news comes just months afterTimothy Olyphantended his five-season run on FX’sJustifiedandDayton Calliewrapped up his role onSons of Anarchy.
