We reached the tipping point with remakes and reboots years ago, so it should come as no surprise that, as we hit the midway point of this decade, a lot of reboots are once again getting rebooted. Sony is doing it a second time withSpider-Man, and now they are planning to do it withCharlie’s Angels.Elizabeth Banksis in talks to direct the action-adventure comedy. She will also co-producer with her husband Max Handelman.

At this time, Sony is still searching for a writer to handle the story behind this all-newCharlie’s Angels.Elizabeth Banksmade her directorial debut this summer, with the blockbuster hitPitch Perfect 2. The musical comedy, which sawAnna Kendrick,Rebel WilsonandElizabeth Banksreprising their original roles from the 2012 hitPitch Perfect, has gone onto earn more than $183.7 million at the domestic box office. It is the number 8 highest grossing movie of 2015 in the states. And it has amassed a global total of $285.1 million.

Charlie’s Angelswas a hit TV series that debuted in 1976. It revolved around three female super detectives played by Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Farrah Fawcett. They all worked for a mysterious benefactor named Charlie. Along with the help of a very popular wall poster, Farrah Fawcett became amegastaroff the success of the action-adventure series, and bailed after one year, with Cheryl Ladd coming in to take her place. Her character wasn’t replaced, though, which allowed for Farrah Fawcett to show up throughout the duration of the series' run in guest starring arcs. Tanya Roberts would also later join the show as one of the revolving ‘Angels’.

Charlie’s Angelsgot the big screen reboot in 2000, with a feature film that starredCameron Diaz,Drew BarrymoreandLucy Liu.McGdirected the movie, which was unique for its hyper-stylized action sequences. Columbia Pictures produced and distributed thefilm, which went onto make $125.3 million in the states, pulling in a global box office tally of $264.1 million. A sequel was quickly greenlit, with all the primary players returning in 2003 forCharlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, with the exception ofBill Murray, who was replaced by Bernie Mac after some well publicized fights with the main cast. It wasn’t quite as successful as the original, only earning $100.8 million domestically, with global grosses maxing out at $259.1 million.

At this time, it isn’t known ifCameron Diaz,Drew BarrymoreorLucy Liuwill return in some capacity, but the belief is that this reboot will introduce a whole new lineup of Angels. WhileElizabeth Banksdid have a small role inPitch Perfect 2, it is not known if she will appear on screen in this next venture. Theactress-turned-directorhad considered making the YA adaptationRed Queenas herdirectorial follow-up. That project is not mentioned byThe Wrap. What do you think?
